Trade-Ideas Lite

Trade-Ideas Lite

Trade-Ideas Lite provides an alternate GUI for Trade-Ideas data.  Trade-Ideas Lite is designed to display new highs and lows, and a few related alerts.

Some users find that Trade-Ideas can produce data too quickly.  Normally we display data as it comes in, with the newest alert on the top.  This can be hard to read if there are a lot of new alerts.  Trade-Ideas Lite allows you to sort the data by other criteria.

A stock will often make several new highs in a row.  Some people find the list of recent highs to be distracting.  Trade-Ideas Lite always shows you the most recent new high for each stock, and nothing else.

The difference between a one-week high and a one-month high can be confusing.  Does "one week" mean "exactly one week"?  "At least one week"?  Trade-Ideas Lite allows you to color-code your alerts by this property.

Click here to install the Trade-Ideas Lite application.  Follow the directions on the screen.  These directions may be different for different versions of Windows. When you are done, "Trade-Ideas Lite" will be added to your Windows start menu.

Main Window

When you first start you will see Trade-Ideas Lite's main window, shown here.

Trade-Ideas Lite Main Window

When you see this you should type in your username and password.  This is the same username and password that you use for our web-based product, or Trade-Ideas Pro.  If you do not yet have a username and password, start here.  After you enter your username and password, click "Log In".

Use the "Create Window" button to create a new alert window.  You may create multiple windows by clicking on this button more than once.

Use the "Save" button to save your layout.  Use the "Load" button to restore a layout that you previously saved.

Alert Window

Each alert window will look something like this.  You can resize it, or customize it in other ways.

Trade-Ideas Lite Alert Window

The top of the window shows one row for each stock.  If a stock has more than one alert, the most recent alert is shown.  For each stock, the following data is shown.

  • Symbol - The stock symbol.
  • Alert - The time of the last alert for this stock.  If this stock had a new alert within the last second, this field will flash.  If this stock continues to have new alerts, this field will continue to flash.
  • Impr - The time of the last improvement.  For highs and lows we can talk about the quality of an alert.  Quality is the number of days since we've seen something higher.  If a stock makes a new high for the day, but the price is still lower than yesterday's high, this value is 0.  If the price is higher than yesterday's high, but lower than the high from the day before, the quality is 1.  This field reports that last time that the quality improved.  This field flashes each time that the quality improves.
  • Break - The last time the quality broke a user defined boundary.  Rather than looking at every quality setting, some users prefer to divide these values into logical groups.  Each time the quality increases enough to move from one group to another, we record the current time, and make this field flash.  Note:  The color of the row is based on the same user defined groups.  This field will flash at the same time as the color of the row changes.
  • Days - The quality field described previously.  See the on-line help for new high / low alerts for more details.
  • Count - The number of alerts of this type we've seen for this symbol, today. This is the same as the Count / # column available in other products.
  • Description - A text description of the last alert for this stock.

Use the radio buttons to sort by one of these columns.  For example, if you are interested in stocks which have made a lot of new highs, sort by the count column.

The "Highs" button configures this window to see all new high alerts.  The "Lows" button configures this window to see all new low alerts.  The "Custom" button allows you to configure the window to see any alerts that you like.  For example, many of our users only trade NYSE stocks, so they can use the custom button to show only NYSE stocks in this window.  Change the alert type from new highs/lows to crossed daily highs resistance / lows support if you only want to see stocks that are improving.  Note:  If you try to view all highs or lows, you will probably overwhelm your computer.  You should use the "Custom" button to request only the alerts that you really want to see.

The "Duplicate" button creates a new alert window which is an exact duplicate of the current window.  This is the quick way to create two similar windows.  After you get all of your settings just right in a new highs window, you can duplicate that window, then change the alert type from highs to lows.  All of your other settings will remain in tact.

The "Clear" button hides all of the alerts in this window.  The software continues to remember the data.  For example, it will know if a stock has improved or not since the last alert, even if you hid the last alert.

You can also change the divisions.  This changes the colors of the alerts, and the values in the "Break" column, as described above.

The default divisions, as shown in the picture above, make the following groups.  New highs for the day, which are not new highs for the week, are blue.  New highs for the week, which are not new highs for the two week period, are purple.  New highs for the two week period which are not new highs for the month, are red.  New highs for the month, which are not new highs for the quarter, are orange.  New highs for the quarter, which are not new highs for the half year are olive.  New highs for the half year, which are not new highs for the year, are green.  New 52 week highs are steel blue.

You can change these divisions.  For example, if you don't care about a two week high, remove the number 14 from the list of divisions, then hit "Set Divisions" to update the screen.  Remove the 0, if you don't want to display the lowest group at all.  Hit the "Reset" button to return to the default settings.

Complete source code is available for Trade-Ideas Lite.  This allows you to customize the program.  This also serves as a baseline for any other processing that you might want to do with Trade-Ideas data.
